Why Grow Your OwnFruit & Vegetables?
One area where shop-bought food, organic or not, cannot compete with home grown is freshness and taste.
The taste of sweetcorn or peas picked and cooked just minutes later is incomparable. The moment they are picked, the sugars start to change to starch and the sweetness is being lost.
Freshly picked new potatoes are a delight to the tastebuds, not just a filler on the plate.
When you grow your own, you can choose varieties that commercial farmers would not. Not just varieties that tast good but varieties that you personally prefer the taste of. Varieties that mature over a longer period and so provide fresh crops over a longer period of time.
And best of all is the sence of connection you feel to the land and your crops.

It doesn't matter if it is a grow bag on the patio, a small corner of your garden or an allotment plot, growing your own fruit and veg is immensly satisfying. From sewing seeds and setting plug plants through to harvesting or even keeping chickens, you are intrinsically involved with the nurturing and growing of your food and to top it all it tastes good.
Why Grow Your Own?

Start Growing
Unless you have a large vegetable plot or an allotment it makes sense to plan what types of vegetables you want to grow. Many gardens are small and often not big enough for the demands of growing families let alone for you to grow everything that you want or need.
It makes sense to grow your favourite fruit and vegetables and those where freshness is important. Early potatoes, spring onions and baby carrots with are delicious, and their flavour and texture deteriorates with every hour that passes after harvest so pick them when you are going to use them and enjoy them at their best.
Don't forget that where room is at a premium, you can grow most vegetables in containers or grow bags, there is no excuse not to have a go.
Go on, have a go and grow your own...
